David & Samantha Gilkinson
Through these opportunities God gave us a heart for Spain, as we saw the spiritual need and made friends with young Spanish Christians.
David and Samantha have been married since 2010 and have two young children, Maria and Luca. Before joining ECM David was involved in full-time youth ministry in Northern Ireland for over 10 years while Samantha was a midwife who loved being involved in various aspects of ministry on a volunteer basis. Their calling to Spain was a gradual one as God grew their passion for the spiritual need and the young people in Spain since a mission trip in 2008 to the Canary Islands.
Currently they are spending a year of learning the Spanish language and culture, while getting to know the ministry settings in ECM Spain before moving to Tarragona were they will work in the Evangelical Church in Salou in youth work and outreach.
When not involved in ministry David loves playing rugby and has recently joined a local Spanish club. They both love a good cup of coffee, long walks and Northern Irish desserts.
David tells their story.
“Sharing testimonies in a Spanish plaza, in the summer evening sun, surrounded by hundreds of people, some listening many ignoring the message while sipping their coffee or beer; that’s how we were first introduced to ministry in Spain. Through these opportunities, God gave us a heart for Spain, as we saw the spiritual need and made friends with young Spanish Christians. We got to see their love for Jesus but also their struggles, their feelings of isolation as believers, and the lack of support and encouragement in their faith."
