Mission

ECM works in church planting and church development in Sweden. This northern European state is known as one of the most secular countries of the world. Although more than half of the population is a member of the Lutheran church, just a small percentage visit church regularly. Especially in the north and in the southernmost part of the country, Christian faith is waning, but also in the capital Stockholm, Christianity is weak. Most denominations are diminishing in the number of members.

ECM longs for...

ECM is particularly focused on the Sami people, an indigenous people with its own language and culture. ECM has been involved in making the church contextual for them, but also in providing materials in Saami languages. However, ECM also focuses on Stockholm, one of the most secularised cities in Europe, in supporting one of the suburban churches. In Värmland ECM workers are engaged in sports ministry and church planting in the area around Kil. ECM is working in cooperation with the Uniting Church in Sweden.
