Shane McGloin
“For they themselves report to us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.” 1 Thessalonians 1:9
Shane was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and moved to County Fermanagh with his family when he was ten. He was raised in a Christian home and received Christ as Lord and Saviour when he was seventeen years old. In his final year of school he sensed a strong desire to serve the Lord full-time. This led him to pursue an undergraduate degree in Theology at Belfast Bible College and an MA degree at the Irish Baptist College.
In 2018 he served with a Baptist church in Vila Real in the north of Portugal for four weeks as part of his undergraduate course. This trip opened his eyes to the need for the gospel in Portugal and gave him a desire to continue serving there. This led him to serve with ECM as a short-term missionary in the same region of Portugal for a year. By 2021, his call to Portugal had grown clearer and he has since then become a long-term missionary in Portugal with ECM.
Shane spent three years in Vila Real (and the wider ‘trás-dos-montes’ region in northern Portugal) serving with three church planting projects. In 2024 he moved further south to Coimbra, having got to know other ECM missionaries in the city, where he is now a part time worker with Rocha Nova evangelical church where he focuses primarily on preaching and youth ministry. He is also serving part time with GBU (Grupo Bíblico Universitário) where he focuses on ministry to Portuguese and international students. This includes evangelism, discipleship and small group Bible studies.
