An overview of the ECMI organisation structure

European Christian Mission International (ECMI) is the umbrella organisation that provides the executive leadership to the ministry of European Christian Mission. Its function is to give oversight, strategic direction and leadership to the field ministry and missionaries working across Europe.

The Church Planting Consultants, the Director of Finance & Administration and the Human Resources Director all report directly to the International Director. Responsibility for the Information Technology Team falls under Administration and responsibility for Short-term Coordination, Member Care and Training & Development come under Human Resources.

Resourcing (marked in blue on the Organisation Chart)

The provision of finances, missionary workers and the promotion of the resourcing of the ministry is undertaken by the eight Mobilisation Teams located around the world. Each Mobilisation Team is an individual legal entity in their own country with a separate board (trustees). The Mobilisation Teams resource the ministry of ECM International based on a covenant agreement, shared values and Statement of Faith. The Mobilisation Team Directors meet together as the Mobilisation Leadership Team.

Ministering (marked in green on the Organisation Chart)

The field ministry is overseen by a Field Leader and Field Council in each country. There is a Field Ministries Executive Team with four members, which has a broad overview of all of our field ministry. Members of the Field Ministries Executive Team coordinate two subgroups to consider issues relating to Vision & Strategy and Ministry Direction.

Leadership (at the centre of the Organisation Chart)

The executive leadership team of ECMI is called the International Leadership Team. This small team is led by the International Director and comprises representatives from the Mobilisation Leadership Team and the Field Ministries Executive Team, along with the Director of Finance & Administration, and the Human Resources Director.

Governance (marked in purple on the Organisation Chart)

The International Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and oversight of the mission, ensuring that the leadership operates in accordance with its principles, procedures, values, vision, and ministry objectives. The Trustees have overall responsibility for the financial stewardship, approval of the annual budget and monitoring of expenditure.  They are directly responsible for the appointment of the International Director, managing their performance, and other governance and legislative requirements.

The Board of Trustees is appointed by the membership of ECM at the General Assembly. The General Assembly is the final authority within the mission and approves any constitutional changes. The General Assembly also appoints members to the Advisory Group which advises on policy matters within the mission.

The function of our key teams

Mobilisation Teams

There are eight Mobilisation Teams around the world, which promote, resource and mobilise workers to serve on the continent of Europe. They are Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, Britain, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iberoamerica and the USA. In addition we have a very strong mobilisation partner in Germany - DMG.

The ECM Mobilisation Teams each have their own Trustee Boards and an Executive Director, supported by a team of office support staff and volunteers. The Mobilisation Teams are  governed in accordance with their national charity regulations and mutually provide resources and workers to ECM International. Covenant agreements form the framework of the relationship between each Mobilisation Team and ECM International.

The Mobilisation Teams have a close working relationship with the Field Ministry Team to support their individual workers.

You can find detailed information about our mobilisation teams on our main website at: https://www.ecmi.org/en/ecm-offices

Mobilisation Leadership Team (MLT)

The eight Mobilisation Team Directors form the Mobilisation Leadership Team. This team meets periodically to prioritise and develop a resourcing strategy to meet the agreed needs, and to monitor the balance of resources flowing from different sources.

Field Ministry Team (FMT) and Field Ministries Executive Team (FMET)

The Field Ministries Team is made up of all the field leaders of ECM International. It meets at least once annually and has responsibility for the coordination, implementation and development of the operational plans. It ensures there is a balanced development of field ministries and agrees the allocation and management of the financial and human resources available to the field operations. The FMT also looks at the wider aspects of developing ECM’s vision in Europe, e.g. recommending the commencement of work in new fields, or new approaches to ministry in existing fields.

The FMT is led by the Field Ministries Executive Team, currently a group of four people. This executive team is responsible for the ongoing leadership and accountability of ministry in the field. As well as meeting regularly as a group, they also coordinate the work of the Vision & Strategy and Ministry Development Groups.

The Field Ministries Coordinator reports to the International Director and coordinates the work of the Field Ministries Executive Team.

Vision & Strategy Group (VS)

The Vision and Strategy Group is responsible for developing the future strategy of ECM International’s field ministries. The team identifies new potential fields, new initiatives and responds to requests from Mobilisation Teams about opportunities for expansion. They work closely with the Field Ministries Coordinator and the Ministry Direction Group to provide executive leadership to the Field Ministries Team.

Ministry Direction Group (MD)

The Ministry Direction Group ensures that the processes for Ministry Plans, Project Requests, Personnel Requests and Personal Development Conversations (PDC) are in place, and that these processes are implemented and run in a manner that is effective to ECM’s wider remit. The group oversees the Ministry Planning process and they ensure the plans submitted are appropriate and realistic. They follow up all the Ministry Plans, passing the information to the MLT, and where appropriate flag issues for further follow up. They review and approve or challenge Project Requests, with the aim of ensuring that all projects are prepared to maximise success.

International Leadership Team (ILT)

The International  Leadership Team is under the direction of the International Director and comprises representatives from the Mobilisation Leadership Team and the Field Ministries Executive Team, along with the Director of Finance & Administration, and the Human Resources Director.  The ILT assists and supports the International Director in providing the essential direction for, and coordination of, the various spheres of operation of ECM International. The team encourages new thinking and initiatives within ECM, including the opening of new fields. The ILT is also important for finding consensus and giving direction on issues that cross functions. The team also monitors matters pertaining to partnerships, communications, member care and training.

Advisory Group (AG)

The Advisory Group is made up of three representatives of the mission alongside the International Director and three other ex officio members drawn from across the mission. The Advisory Group advises both the Trustees and the General Assembly about ECM policies and proposals by taking the time to look at, rework or develop issues before those issues are communicated between the two groups. The Advisory Group keeps the iGuide up to date so that it may be a help to all the members of the mission, wherever they are and whatever they may be doing.

Member Care Leadership Team (MCLT)

The Member Care Leadership Team develops and promotes best practice in member care across our fields. Members of this team are in regular contact with the network of Member Care Facilitators - people on each field who offer first hand support to our members. The MCLT monitors development in member care standards and practices, and seeks to inform and train the Facilitators about them. It also promotes self awareness and mutual care within the mission.
